Subject: [OpenDivX] Linux status?

I notice that the Linux version hasn't been updated for quite some time...
Is anyone developing under Linux? If so, are you just getting the OpenDivx core and adding your own makefiles or automake or whatever in your cvs work dir?
I'm interested in getting started with working on the linux decore at least, and just don't want to duplicate too much effort ;-)

I don't think it's a technical issue, it's a legal issue... Video
compression is a minefield of patents. Anyone building a product using DiVX
or a similar codec is going to face licensing fees or risk lawsuits...

Dan

We're working on making a DivX player. We're in talks w/ consumer
electronics and chip companies. If anyone on the opendivx mailing list has
good contacts into chip and consumer electronics companies (decision
makers), please forward their information to me.

Thanks,

Panger

DVD-player

As the popularity of the DivX format continues to increase, I am astounded
that no one yet has ventured to produce a Stand-Alone DVD-player with DivX
support.
I should'nt be that hard, it took only months before the first mp3-capable
players came out.

...And think about the market for such a baby...

Please reply if you have the slightest info about the development in this
particular field.

Dan:

You are correct about legal issues. We are doing everything we can to get a
DivX player for the community and take care of all legal issues at the same
time.
